Suicide rates in the US have been trending upward, with some fluctuations. Here are some key statist

2023 Data

 Over 49,000 people died by suicide, which translates to one death every 11 minutes.
- The racial/ethnic groups with the highest rates were non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native people and non-Hispanic White people.
- Males accounted for nearly 80% of suicides, with a rate approximately four times higher than females. 

2022 Data

 - A record high of 49,369 suicide deaths was reported, with firearms being the most common method used in over 55% of cases.
- Suicide death rates were highest among American Indian and Alaska Native people, males, and people living in rural areas. 

2024 Data

 - The national age-adjusted suicide rate climbed to 14.7 per 100,000 people, marking a 30% rise over the past twenty years.
- Middle-aged adults (35-54), elderly individuals (85+), and American Indian/Alaska Native populations showed the highest suicide rates across demographic groups ¹ ² ³.

- *Suicide Rates by Age:*
- Among adults, the prevalence of suicide thoughts and attempts was highest among young adults aged 18-25.
- In 2022, the suicide rate was highest among males aged 75 and older (43.9 per 100,000) and females aged 45-64 (8.6 per 100,000).
- *Suicide Methods:*
- Firearms were the most common method used in suicides, accounting for over 54% of deaths in 2022.
- Suffocation and poisoning were other common methods used.

2025 Data

The exact number of people who have committed suicide in 2025 so far is not readily available. However, according to recent trends, the US saw a record high of 49,369 suicide deaths in 2022 and estimates for 2024 pointed to an even higher rate of 14.7 per 100,000 people, with over 49,300 suicide deaths reported.
